Dates
January 08, 2012 - January 08, 2012 - CONFIRMED!
Description: Family Folk Festival: The Gawlers and the Boardmans.
Sunday, Jan. 8, 2 pm

Well known in central Maine for their Irish, Celtic, and Quebecois repertoire, banjo-picking and fiddling, their love of music, and their smiles, John and Ellen Gawler and their three daughters, Molly, Edith, and Elsie, play fabulous music with everyone fiddling except John on the guitar and banjo. Harmonizing in the way that is unique to families, theirs is an eclectic collection of songs and tunes. Johns singing style reminds one of Woodie or Arlo Guthrie (e.g. City of New Orleans). To purchase their recently released CD, The Gawlers: Golden Thread, write to The Gawlers, 284 Guptill Road, Belgrade, ME 04917 and enclose a check or money order for $15. This and other CDs by Molly, by Ellen's Trillium, or by Ellen's The Pineland Fiddlers will be available at the concert.

Greg Boardman, the founder of the Maine Fiddle Camp, has been a major inspiration for many fiddlers over the last 28 years throughout Maine. His music reflects Scots-Irish and French Canadian elements. His family band is Boardman and Sons : with Isaac/guitar, Aidan/bass, Greg/fiddle, and Ethan/drums. They have played for dances, parties, concerts, and weddings from Eastport, Maine to Penn State University...for the American Folk Festival...their music ranges from aggressive reels and sinuous jigs to sublime waltzes. Greg teaches in Lewiston Schools and at Bates College.
