July 6 & 7, 2013 - Rain or Shine

TIME: 10 am to 4 pm each day

One of the sure signs that summer has arrived in Wells is the popular Summer Solstice Craft Show, now in its 31st year. This year's two-day show will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Wells Elementary School on Route 109.

The juried show is known for the quality and variety of crafts and arts it offers. More than 70 crafters and artists attend, displaying, demonstrating and offering their goods for sale inside the building and out on the brick courtyard. Traditional, contemporary and country crafts are represented. You will find stained glass, jewelry, pottery, soaps, candles, wood accessories, fiber arts, graphics, photography, handcrafted specialty foods and much more. Many of the artists and crafters in the show use materials and create goods that are either of Maine or capture Maine or New England.

Among the artists at the show are Jewel Simmons, whose unusual and creative art includes pins, necklaces and bracelets made from polymer clay and postage stamps. Another unique artist is Susan Scarborough Chipman, who creates whimsical fused glass mirrors. Maine artist Judith Hodges will be there with her evocative watercolors; local sea glass artists Nancy McCallum and Patsy Onatah (known as Pieces of Maine) have new sea glass jewelry designs to show, and dont miss woodworker Scott Anderson with finely crafted wooden furniture and turned bowls.

The craft show also includes live music, provided by John Tercyak of Bar Harbor, who is an accomplished folk guitarist, fiddler and singer.

Lunch is available at the show, from Diane & Bob Wolfort, of Julies Ristorante & Provisto in Ogunquit. They offer a lunch menu that includes crowd favorites with some creative gourmet touches, plus they make hand-blended vinegars, dips, oils and sauces, all available at the show

The craft show is held rain or shine from 10 am to 4 pm both days.
