The dogs jump and yip--ready to go. They've trained for this throughout the year. At last, the timekeeper counts down, the driver steps onto the sled runners, the handlers release the dogs as the driver yells. They dash off onto trails through the orchards and woods at Five Fields Farm in South Bridgton. Suddenly all is quiet except for the crunching snow. The Maine Lakes Mushers' Bowl, an International Sled Dog Racing Association sanctioned event with competitors from throughout the USA, includes sled dog races and skijoring.

The Maine Lakes Mushers' Bowl Winter Carnival, sponsored by the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce, is a two-day event offering a fascinating array of activities. A variety of indoor and outdoor activities include a Mid-Winter Massacre Dodge-ball Tournament, Ping Pong Tournament, Dog Sled Rides, Snowmobile Rides, Snow Shoeing, Youth Ice Fishing Derby, Freezin' for a Reason Fund Raiser to benefit Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, Winter Carnival Dance and much more. Join us to celebrate winter, both indoors and out, and keep cabin fever at bay.
