Description:

From Camden Winterfest Website:

Camden is preparing for another sparkling and dazzling week of Winterfest activities! The week kicks off with shimmering ice-carving in the Amphitheatre and brilliant snow sculptures scattered throughout town, plus another extraordinary downtown feature, the CamJam in Harbor Park, on the weekend of January 31 and February 1. There will be a week full of community events including concerts, movies, a snowplow parade and dances at the Opera House, Camden Public Library, and fire station, with special Winterfest offerings at Camden restaurants. Winterfest culminates in the National Toboggan Championships at the Snow Bowl on the weekend of February 7 and 8.

Winterfest enjoys wide community support and participation from the Camden Downtown Business Group, Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, Camden Public Library, and extraordinary efforts from residents and the town crew and especially the Snow Bowl crew. The snow-making experts from the Snow Bowl create eight-foot monoliths of snow for sculpting, and create mountains of snow in the Amphitheatre and Harbor Park for family play and for the CamJam events. Harbor Park is an exceptionally beautiful location for a snowboarding and skiing event. Spectators can overlook the harbor, with its shrouded schooners and icy sparkling wavelets, while watching the skiing and boarding competition on Sunday, February 1. There will be an opportunity for the public to try out the hill on Saturday before the competition.

From the opening celebration in the Amphitheatre to the closing victory celebration at the Toboggan Nationals, Camden Winterfest is a lively winter phenomenon for families, visitors, and teammates. Winterfest builds on the traditions of the ice-carving Winterfest celebration begun thirteen years ago and the Toboggan Nationals that began twenty-five years ago on the restored toboggan chute at the Snow Bowl. It promises to be a growing, dynamic, community-based festival full of mid-winter activities for all.
