Bookmark and Share
Location Gardiner
Dates April 09, 2015 - April 09, 2015
Description: Gardiner is set to shake off the long tough winter with a dose of Spring Tonic. From the A-1 Diner to Zardus Spa, week-long promotions to put spring in your step will culminate with special events on April 9th. Modeled on art walks, Spring Tonic is a wellness walk that celebrates National Public Health Week's community day with Gardiner's special flair. The event showcases many resources in and around Gardiner that contribute to wellness and community well-being with demonstrations, information and special opportunities on Thursday April 9th, at Johnson Hall and throughout downtown.

Gardiner is a national model for how a community comes together to create healthy living. Last summer, a film crew from the US Centers for Disease Control and prevention arrived to film Gardiner's Healthy Maine Streets programs in action. The video will make its Maine premiere on April 9 at Johnson Hall 6 PM as part of the Spring Tonic celebration.
Spring tonic offers will bubble up all week. Gardiner's eateries will highlight healthy menu and especially healthy beverage specials (several restaurants are promoting their own "spring tonics"). Other special events on the spring tonic menu including fitness demonstrations, a movie on local agriculture, classes on using natural ingredients to create healthful alternatives to sweetened sodas, and another on making teas and tinctures, as well as a class on how to tap your creativity. Themed retail specials range from seeds to athletic clothing.

The main Gardiner Spring Tonic event is a wellness fair featuring people who practice in or serve Gardiner. Visit downtown Gardiner to see demonstrations, exhibits and information around the downtown and on stage and on exhibit at Johnson Hall from 4:30 to 7pm. We'll be posting sneak peeks of what will be on tap as the event approaches. Demos include dance, martial arts, Zumba and hula-hooping. Therapists will show and explain massage, reiki, hypnotherapy, chiropractic and other treatments. Learn where to get good food, where to be active, and how to connect with peers for support in making lifestyle changes. Celebrate the other things that keep us well--love, healthy surroundings, and laughter.
